Search Engine Optimisation Explained

Search Engines like Google and Yahoo don't see web pages in the same way as we do; they see 'code.'

To see what search engines see you can simply use the page>view source option on windows explorer or view source option on Mozilla.

As you will see, this code makes no sense at all (unless you are a coder of course)

Search Engine Optimisation is the process of ensuring the 'code' on any given web page is 'search friendly'.

When we talk about search friendly web pages, what we mean is pages that Google and Yahoo can access easily and find the information they need to determine what your website is about.

Search Engine Optimisation and Link Building

Once search engines can identify what your website is all about, the next step is for them to determine how popular your website is.

Search Engines determine how popular your site is by the number of visitors you generate and how many 'links' your site has.

Links can be internal and external (links from websites who recommend you, forums where your links appear, social networks where your links are included, etc.)
