SEO Cornwall blast tied in contracts.
Iain Venn of SEO Cornwall has recently blasted tied in contracts offered by sales and marketing agencies targetting search engine optimisation, website promotion and internet marketing.
"I feel it's important for business owners to be aware that, in many cases, the focus of the contract is to tie you into a long term comittment before you see any results," he advised.
"Some agencies use sales consultants who have no real understanding of what they are saying or promising, which can lead to clients having unrealistically high expectations. We see it all the time and the results can be harmful and expensive, especially for those businesses who do not have a bottomless pit of resources".
"Business Owners across the UK should never assume that because a business looks slick and professional - it's going to deliver the results. Local courts are beginning to get filled with clients taking so called seo companies to court over poor results or highly inflated fees that don't get results and do more harm than good."
"If a company is unwilling to take you on a trial basis for at least 3 months, that is a big red flag - walk away, run if you can!"
Iain Venn advises anyone looking to outsource a new company to do a little research into their business, as well as ask for a trial period to gauge actual results.
"If you must sign a contract, be sure that you include a clause that allows you to get out of it, should the worse happen and you can see that the advice and budgets you have been asked to commit to aren't profitable for your business".
"However large or small your business is, a true expert will be able to take you on and start showing you real results within as little as 4 to 6 weeks. Working with an expert without a contract means that both parties are 'in it to win it', you both rely on each other to get the best results you can, but should the worse happen and you need to change supplier, you can do this immediately."
Google AdWords being sold as search engine optimisation, SEO Cornwall claims.
"Be aware of companies selling ad space on Google and disguising it as search engine optimisation," SEO Cornwall have warned.
Search Engine Optimisation is the process of gaining free listings within googles 'organic' search results, but you can also pay to advertise within their sponsored listings, which very often appear above the first 10 'organic' results on Page 1 (in a slight cream colour, which can be hard to distinguish from the organic results)
This can be a very expensive way to generate business and it is commonly known amongst seo experts that Google AdWords is not a one stop solution for all. It does have the potential to work, but it does not work for everybody.
"Many business owners are still completely in the dark when it comes to what part of their website promotion is working and many are paying for Google AdWords advertising each month, believing it is search engine optimisation. There are many companies paying Google for the benefit of advertising their products and services, without them making any profit from it whatsoever - for example, they believe adwords is working, but very often under closer scrutiny it is clear that all or part of their monthly spend is their own pure profit going down the drain."
"Test AdWords by all means, but be sure you can properly track conversions accurately through Analytics, including how much each sale or lead is costing your business to convert," SEO Cornwall advise.
